High-level event "Our Atlantic Ocean for Growth and Well-Being” at OSCM
The European Commission is organising the high-level event "Our Atlantic Ocean for Growth and Well-Being” on 21-22. November 2018 in Mindelo. The event will be hosted at the Ocean Science Centre Mindelo in partnership with the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany and the National Institute for Fisheries Development INDP, Cabo Verde.
The event will start on 21 November with a Projects, Initiatives and Ideas Meeting Place for Atlantic Ocean Stakeholders. The Meeting Place aims to facilitate the cooperation and integration with stakeholders from Europe and Cabo Verde - from the public sector, private sector, foundations, funding agencies, research-performing organisations, academia and NGOs to discuss interactively on, among others, how we can collectively contribute to achieving sustainable development goals by addressing climate change, biodiversity, and food security; and how to gain from the mutual benefit that would accrue from linking science, research and innovation activities between Europe and Cabo Verde.
A highlight of the event will see Commissioner Carlos Moedas co-sign, on behalf of the European Commission, a Cooperation Arrangement on Marine Research and Innovation Cooperation with the Government of Cabo Verde. This Cooperation Arrangement will be signed on the 22 November and recognises marine research, including ocean research, as a top priority for our international cooperation.
Throughout the course of the event, participants will enjoy a series of plenary sessions, panel discussions, a showcase of projects and national initiatives, and an inspirational keynote from H.E. Lisa Svennson, Ambassador for Oceans, Sea and Freshwater, Director & Coordinator Marine and Coastal Ecosystems Branch, United Nations Environment Programme in the surroundings of the Ocean Science Centre Mindelo; an attractive environment to foster marine and atmospheric research in the North-eastern tropical Atlantic.
The Agenda of the event can be found here (https://en.xing-events.com/Mindelo2018.html).
